Forest road rides can be done in most conditions, however most are closed to mountainbikers during the week when logging traffic is using them. A Tasman Forest permit is required to enter most of the exotic forests close to Nelson. Permits can be purchased from Action Forest Management in Richmond or by belonging to the Nelson Mountainbike Club. Check the Logging Crew Location page to see where there are active logging areas. Please avoid active logging areas at all times.

Generally these are easier rides well suited to riders who aren't into singletrack, but like to ride out into the hills away from motorised traffic.
