Rating: Grade 2
Time: 2-3 hours from Wakefield
Know before you go: A Tasman Pine Forests permit is mandatory. These roads can only be ridden at weekends. Check  Logging Crew Locations before you go. Print off this map. There are roads everywhere in this area, some are not marked on the map at all and some of the ones marked aren't roads, but this map will help. HoultValleyMap.pdf

From Wakefield ride west on the Dovedale road for a couple of kilometres then branch off on the Pigeon Valley South Branch Rd. Just before a one way concrete bridge turn left on to Bradleys Road. Climb up Bradleys Rd to the top and turn right on Golf Rd. Stay on Golf Rd which follows a ridgeline until you come to Crowes Rd. Turn left down Crowes Rd and follow it until it drops down and crosses a small creek. A couple of hundred metres later you will come to Hoult Valley. If you can't face another hill climb turn right and cross a gate out on to Hoult Valley Rd.

Start of the climb out of Hoult Valley      Intersection of Hoult and Golf Road looking east

Otherwise turn left and follow the road, which is a bit scoured out, up Hoult Valley crossing the creek and after 400 metres start climbing a hill. Turn left at the top of the hill and continue along a ridge top to the intersection with Golf Rd. The signpost has a 5km marker on it. Turn right here and follow Golf Rd east right out to the Dovedale Rd and back to Wakefield.

Recent logging on Golf Rd has opened up new views over Wakefield
